Announcing THE WHITE ALBUM: A Collection of Images Inspired by the Music of The Beatles.
Forty-five years ago, The Beatles invaded America, bringing with them a sound and attitude different than anything any of us had seen or heard before. They challenged and inspired us, forcing us to think about how things could be if we would only realize the importance of love.

It’s now 2009. It’s been nearly forty years since The Beatles broke up, and yet their message is as relevant and influential as ever. The greatest band in history is still inspiring hope and dreams, still changing lives and fostering creativity, still shaping the way we look, listen and think.

Announcing THE WHITE ALBUM: A Collection of Images Inspired by the Music of The Beatles.

Compiled and introduced by writer and illustrator Russell Walks, and showcasing work by artists including Matt Busch, Paul Michel Kane and Jeff Pittarelli, THE WHITE ALBUM presents an exciting array of dynamic, emotional works of art, each of has been inspired by a song from The Beatles’ extensive catalogue.

From the stirring melancholy of the Martin Luther King themed “Blackbird” to the touching innocence of Walks’ “Good Day, Sunshine”, THE WHITE ALBUM looks at the work of The Beatles through a kaleidoscope of artistic styles and viewpoints.

THE WHITE ALBUM will be available for the very first time ever this summer at the San Diego Comic-Con (July 22 -26, 2009). Don’t miss your chance to pick up a copy at the only location where every artist will be available to personalize your book.

Photo-a-Day Challenge
Back in April, I issued a challenge to myself - capture a print worthy photo a day for the next year . . . that's 365 really strong images every day until April 2009. I wasn't sure I was up to it, but here we are in Late-June and I am still going strong. I didn't post the link here as I wanted to see how well the blog would stand on it's own using nothing but Facebook and Twitter to drive viewers to it . . . we'll it's done great. I've been interviewed about it here and have sold a bunch of prints because of the attention it's gotten. So if you haven't seen it yet, below is a look at the second month's worth of images and here's the direct link to the blog: pmkphoto.blogspot.com

Photos from my trip out to San Fran and Lucasfilm!
This month, I got to see a lifelong dream come true! On a trip out to WonderCon in San Francisco to promote Konxari Cards, myself and a select few were invited out to tour Lucasfilm and Skywalker Ranch - we also got a tour of Rancho Obi-Wan - the largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia ever assembled! Anyone who knows me knows that I very much admire what George Lucas has done with his vision and his generosity. He created the most compelling saga ever created . . . and has done so much good with the wealth generated from his creation. It was such a thrill to visit a place I had read about since I was a kid . . . and to be standing there - well, I think that grin on my face says it all!

Click here to see a gallery of all the images shot during my trip! And head over to my Facebook page to get a running comentary on some of the images!

The Nikon P6000!
Here's the newest addition to my photographic arsenal . . . the Nikon P6000! This will never replace my beloved Nikon D2x, but the size of this new camera enables me to carry this around with me where ever I go. This advanced point-and-shoot was created with a professional in mind and features many of the same functions as the D2x - even sports a higher mega pixel (clocking in at 13.5). Some of the cool features include a built in GPS unit to geo-tag your photos, it can shoot 640x480 .avi movies and can even upload your images to Nikon's PictureTown via a wired LAN connection . . . To sum it up, I am in love with this camera! I've been shooting with this a little over a week now and have found it a joy to work with. Check out some fall foliage images shot with the new P6000 here.

Some of my Photography on ABC News!
One of the companies I work with was featured on the 'Home Work' segment of ABC News where they showcase a sucessful start-up business that began in the home. The company is LTD Chix and during the segment, much of my catalog photography was shown. I've since gone onto digitally color many of the T-shirt images from the shirts for reproduction in books, calendars and other such items. Click here to see the entire segment.

August Desktop Calendar
Response to this new site has been overwhelming and as a small thanks, I am offering a monthly desktop calendar - and since August is right around the corner - here's the first one! This was shot in at a Civil War-era cemetary in Orlando, Florida just prior to going to Photoshop World at the Orange County Convention Center. It was shot with a Nikon D100 converted to take pictures in the infrared spectrum. The image was captured with a 10-20mm Sigma super-wide angle lens and was shot hand held. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 1.4. Look for more desktop calendars in the months to come and thanks - as always - for the support and encouragement! Click on the image to download the file.

New Sigma 70-300 Macro Lens
Here's what they say: The Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras features a 1:2 maximum close-up magnification at the 300 millimeter focal length. An excellent cost performance telephoto zoom lens for digital and 35mm SLR cameras, this lens also has a switch for changeover to macro photography at focal lengths between 200 millimeters and 300 millimeters. The minimum focusing distance 59.1 inches at all zoom settings. Optimized for digital photography, the lens features SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass for excellent correction of chromatic aberration.

And here's what I say: You can't beat this lens - IF - you only use it for Macro Photography. Here's why. First the best aspect of this lens - the price! I have been itching to do macro for a while, even picked up some screw on 'close-up' lenses, but I knew if I wanted to to it right, I needed a dedicated macro lens. Price always made be balk at making the commitment. Did some all important research and found the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro Lens on Amazon for - get this - only $77.95! How good could it be, right? This is a business where you really do get what you pay for - and this lens shatters that myth! Now that said, it's a fantastic Macro Lens as evidenced by the shot below - first shot of the lens, in fact. Ok, so now the bad . . . and it's not so much the lens's fault. It's me . . . I am spoiled. This lens doesn't boast any 'image stabilization' features. So for now, if I need a Zoom lens, I still pull out my 70-200 Nikon with vibration reduction features. But, for me, this baby is all about the close-up and it performance is stellar!

The Anatomy of a Photoshoot - Matt Busch
You may remember I had a photoshoot back in June with "The Rock Star of Illustration" Matt Busch. The photos have been popping up all over the place, including the artist's official site, StarWars.com and more . . . I utilized my Animoto.com account and whipped up a little video montage of the photos. Enjoy!

The National Association of Photoshop Professionals
I wanted to take a moment and plug one of the greatest organizations ever created for Photographers/Graphic Designers. I've been a member of The National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) since 2006. There's so much to tell about this organization, I hardly know where to begin. First off, they publish Photoshop User Magazine every month that is just full of tips, tricks and the most informative articles about design and photography out there . . . it offers product reviews, keeps you up to date on software releases and it's vendor showcases are top of the line. Then, there's the NAPP web site which goes 100 steps beyond the magazine, offering exclusive PDF tutorials and amazing video tutorials. Once you're a member, you also can download for FREE, every episode of the great Photoshop TV. Then there are the twice-a-year Photoshop Worlds! These conventions, one held on the East Coast and the other in Las Vegas, are like a shot of creative adrenalin . . . after you attend these shows, you remember why you became a creative professional. Click on the image below to read more and find out how you can become a member.

Silver Efex Pro manual to feature PMK Photography!
I am very happy to finally announce that one of my images is being used by NIK Software in their new Silver Efex Pro plug-in manual and web site! I was brought onboard as a beta test for the software during Photoshop World in April and have have been using the product ever since. The product manager saw one of my before and after images on the beta testing forum and wanted to acquire it for publication in the product manual and other related usage. They've officially released the software and you can now purchase it now! Not only can you download the product manual with my image on Page 36, but you can see a sneak peek at the image here (click on the 'features' tab) and catch a 5-minute tutorial featuring my image here! Fourth of July Celebration
Fireworks make for a great photographic subject and this was probably the most pleasant shooting experiences I've ever had. We got to Camelback Ski Resort nice and early and spotted some lounge chairs. Set up the tripod with a 28-80mm lens on the D2x . . . attached the cable release and waited for dark. Once the first couple fireworks went off, I composed the shot and sat back, triggering the cable release in time with the fireworks! Hope you enjoy the gallery as much as I enjoyed creating it! Image of the Year - Sparta Camera Club
A couple weeks was the final competition of the year for The Sparta Camera Club, of which, I am a member. This is a terrific group of people who get together twice a month - sometimes holding competitions, critiques and informative meetings. Last evening's meeting happened to be the last competition of the year and the selection of images were just fantastic! I entered four images - 3 color and one Black and White . . . I placed first in the category of Advanced Color and Advanced Black and White . . . One of my images was also selected as "Image of the Year." It's quite an honor to have been selected and I am looking forward to the next year!! See below for the winning images.

JPG Magazine - Vote Now!
JPG Magazine is for people who love imagemaking without attitude. It's about the kind of photography you get when you love the moment more than the camera. It's for photographers who, like us, have found themselves online, sharing their work, and would like to see that work in print. One of the cool aspects of the site is the marrage between the web site and the printed magazine. You are able to upload images based on the upcoming issue's themes and community members then vote on which images get printed in future issues! It's free to join and you can upload tons of images. It's a great way to get not only the chance to see publication, but also honest feedback from like-minded creative types! Click on the photo above to vote for my "Favorite Places" themed image.

New Outdoor Shoot - Heater's Pond, Ogdensburg, NJ.
Pulled out the D2x this morning and headed up to Heater's Pond just after day break. It was - as you can tell - a foggy day and I just knew I'd get some nice shots up at the pond. Switched between the Nikon 70-200mm and the Sigma 10-20mm . . . all hand held. About 20 minutes after the sun came up, the fog burned off and the mood was gone, but I was happy with what I got! Click the image or here to view the gallery. Enjoy!
